Approach to the notion of citizenship in contemporaneity

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to analyze the concept of citizenship within contemporary society. To reflect on social benefits implied by the use of information and communication technology, in promotion of sympathy feelings to recognize the other as an equal and feeling individual. From an inductive analysis, it is explained how, parting from situational ethics caused by threats of economies of market, individuals trend to validate social practices of riding roughshod over the other. They are an example of social unbalance hidden under citizenship denominatives. Cultural absence of respect for the other, which may be controlled or discouraged through formation and universal promotion of feelings of love and respect for the human being, for the simple fact of being human. Which feelings, in conclusion, are more easily spread through generalized use of web sites and social networks, using images and gestures. In other words, respect for the other is the result of increasingly wider social union. It is the recognition of an universal citizenship beyond territorial and cultural consideration, since it is related to natural human actions, through which the various imaginaries of searching life quality, happiness, and family group are sought.
