Coffee productive chain: work requisition for the vulnerable population in Quindío region

Abstract

The following article develops an analysis regarding the issue of employment, particularly the aspects about the characteristics of the Coffee Productive Chain linked to the monitoring and follow up that the Work Market Observatory in Armenia City may carry out in terms of identifying current and future employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for the vulnerable population in situation of poverty so they can be productively included; also the due training which will allow them to access the work market in the coffee region identifying the potential places where labor from the productive chain can migrate. Firstly, the coffee productive chain must be identified in every one of the links of knowledge: provision of inputs, specialized coffee production, coffee storage and coffee purchases, internal consume, export marketing purposes, sales and preparation, thematic parks; further in, the size of the chain will be described with the number of productive units taken at urban as well as rural levels. Besides the above, an analysis about the importance of socioeconomic aspects such as productive units, commercial facilities, company size, and generated employment will be done. Another important factor to be studied is the formality of the productive units and enterprises in relation to their legal constitution, the sources of the initial capital as well as the funding. On the other hand, the chain dynamics was also analyzed under the following criteria: course of the identified links, Enterprise categorizing by links, Specialization of the chain. Finally, an analysis of the different chain links required for the labor will be done: employment type, salary, required positions, hiring, gender preference, age and labor request in accordance to the peaks of production.
