Humanistic education as a contribution to the development

Abstract

Few decades ago a questioning has arose around the concept of development based on the idea of growth, given that this has led to the improvement of life conditions in society. Education cannot continue to be thought as a tool used only for economic growth. The results of such a bet have been disastrous for the world to the point that the conception of development has only implied material growth without taking into account social wellbeing. To that effect, this article has the purpose to present the contribution to development given by education in humanism. This emerges in the framework of a research centered in the education problems within our institutions. The main concern of the research corresponds to a criticism attitude towards the current educational plans which don´t fit sustainable paths for development whenever that same development has been thought through elaborated terms defended by the great economies where accumulation of material wealth is favored leaving aside and abandoning the goal for a personal development based on the critical thought of social dimension. That´s why, arts and humanities become pillars for the kind of development we need. The research was oriented to vindicate the humanism contents as grounds for development, arguing as possible, those paths detaching from the imposed dynamic of social order as viable and necessary
