War privatization in Colombia

Abstract

This document studies the phenomenon of war privatization in Colombia. In in Private actors have participated I the Colombian armed conflict; such actors have not been taken into account in the legal ambit and political. Therefore, this article shows the readers this phenomenon which has occurred since the 80s in Colombia. Likewise, the purpose is to show the damages caused by war privatization to the Colombian State. This writing is composed of a brief conceptual summary explaining the concepts of war privatization phenomenon. Then, a historical description or war privatization is presented in order to familiarize the reader with this phenomenon. In this manner the basis are presented to facilitate understanding the situation in Colombia. As demonstrated, Colombia is a particular case, since actors of the armed conflict, the State and the illegal groups, have hired those named ‘mercenaries’ to participate in such war. Likewise, it was found that private companies have also used this formula, thus contributing to damage the Colombian state sovereignty. As a consequence, it will be demonstrated how war has passed from being a matter of State sovereignty to a topic of the international market.
